- 1963 Five weeks prior to his 90th birthday, Hall of Fame trainer ‘Sunny Jim’ Fitzsimmons retired. “Mr. Fitz,” as he was also known, trained such outstanding runners as Nashua, Bold Ruler, Johnstown and Triple Crown winners Gallant Fox and his son Omaha.
